These figures appear to have come from the reliquary shrine of St Lambert commissioned by the prince-bishop Erard de La Marck for the now-destroyed cathedral of St. Lambert in Liege.
It was begun by the Aachen goldsmith Hans von Reutlingen or his workshop in 1508 and consecrated on April 22, 1512.
The bishop, who originally held a crosier in his left hand, probably represents a locally venerated bishop saint.
The left hand of the crowned female figure is also missing, together with her other attribute, making it impossible to determine whether she represents the Virgin, a royal, or a martyred female saint.
